Global Outreach
“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive." - Acts 20:35
Zion Churches' Outreach Ministry strives to create greater good by positively impacting individuals, families, communities, and policies that transform lives. Our mission is accomplished through direct service projects, programs, and support that serve identified needs including food support; mortgage and rental assistance; housing; utility support; counseling through ministry and other support services; and health, recreational, and educational support. Zion meets people and organizations where they are, and works to ensure that the resources invested and entrusted to us are managed with the highest level of stewardship to serve our local, national, and global communities. To aid, Zion Church awarded families in need rent, mortgage, and utility assistance. From warm nights to warm meals, our Outreach team works selflessly to ensure safety and health for those in need.
What we do in the community:
Benevolence: To date, have paid $3 million to assist with housing, utility, medical bill assistance, and limited financial assistance for funerals.
Health and Wellness: Zion Church, in partnership with The United Way NCA, the Mary's Center, Holy Cross, and many others host health fairs that provide testing, vaccinations, and healthcare checks to address the ongoing health disparities that exist in the Black and Brown communities, we are broadening our focus to include blood pressure screenings, diabetes & HIV testing and will continue to expand these services.
Health and Wellness Food Distribution Program: We extend our love to the community through the Health and Wellness Food Distribution program, which encompasses various efforts that provide nutritional options to communities and individuals in need. Sixty volunteers help pack and deliver groceries to over 100 families monthly, from our food pantry. We also partner with Bowie State University by helping to fill their campus nutritional lounge with fresh produce weekly so college students are well-nourished and ready to learn.
Miracle on Z Street: Our annual Christmas extravaganza started in 2020 as a way to bring joy, celebration, and blessings to families during the pandemic. It was such a success that it's now a major part of our holiday season celebrations. To date, more than 50,000 deserving children and families have been touched through this program.
Christmas Joy Shop: Zion Church brings Christmas joy to local children and families through our Christmas Joy Shop, spreading love and happiness to families in need. Many of our congregants make new toys and monetary donations to help make this event a success, and our volunteers work diligently to sort, wrap, and deliver hundreds of gifts to those who need it most, partner schools, and children of incarcerated families.
